Introducing the newest member of the Curve broadcast team

Keel_CartoonHello, Curve fans! My name is Fletcher Keel, and I’ll be with you for the 2016 campaign as the Media Relations Assistant. What that essentially means is I’ll be helping Trey here with the Around the Curve blog, as well as a lot of behind-the-scenes stuff, and will also be on air during Curve games this season, both as the pre- and post-game show host along with some play-by-play scattered throughout the season.

2016 will mark my second season in professional baseball, after having spent the 2015 season with the Midwest League’s Bowling Green Hot Rods (Low-A, Tampa Bay Rays) in Bowling Green, Kentucky, where I served in a similar role as a Media Relations assistant and #2 broadcaster, where I called three innings a night for all of the Hot Rods’ home games, with the occasional full-game broadcast.

10154983_10156484678525246_6812166111900751564_nI’m brand spankin’ new not only to Altoona, but to Pennsylvania – and life in the Northeast as a whole. I’m a born and bred Georgian (more specifically, from Atlanta), and went to college in Bowling Green at Western Kentucky University, but have very much enjoyed my first couple of months here in the Keystone State.

While this marks just my second year of professional broadcasting, I’ve been behind the mic for about four years now. I started in Bowling Green with high school broadcasting through the Sporting Times Broadcasting Network, where I called high school baseball, basketball and football around BG, and was a co-host for a student-run WKU weekly sports talk show, the RedZone. I also called several WKU soccer and softball games for the Hilltoppers’ official internet streaming service.

When I’m not at the ballpark, or thinking about baseball (which honestly isn’t that often), I’m enjoying whatever my current binge is on Netflix, or listening to music. Also, I love uniforms/logos, and am a modest hat collector (you can bet your bottom dollar I already have my reversible Rally Al Tuna cap).

I’m always down to interact or talk baseball (or football. Or hockey. Or television. Or music. Or whatever, really) on twitter – where you can find me @FletchTopper – and, once again, I look forward to spending 2016 with the Curve, with Trey and Nate, and with you.

The 2016 season begins on April 7 at PNG Field as the Curve host the Harrisburg Senators. Single-game tickets are available now, as well as tickets for our Opening Day Meet & Greet Picnic.
